News -August Club Day 2010

Wild and windy club day

We held our August club day at Ocean Grove with a big 1.5 to 2 metre swell and a 30 + knot wild Westerly wind blowing across the wave faces. It was back to running the new format for this comp after having run the club championships the previous 2 months. With the 40 odd names drawn out, the first of the five man qualifying heats hit the water. The first few heats had the biggest of the swell for the day with the tide being highest by about the 3rd heat. With a big sweep running getting in at Micks steps would see you end up in front of the boat ramp by the time you got out the back, if you actually made it.

The swell and the wind remained full on for the whole day and by the time the finals came to a close there were some good left and right banks working.

The conditions took their toll on most of the surfers with some tired and weary bodies choosing not to paddle out in their final. President Brian recons he’s got a bag of cement for a few of the ones who decided not to paddle out.

Next club day on the 18th of September.

Remember to get your 4 club days under your belt to be eligible for the club championship positions.
