SOUL Starts for 2010
SOUL Longboard club kicked off its 2010 season with a perfect beach day, mild northerly winds feathering a moderate ½ to 1m swell and some good little banks.
The comp was held at Signposts at 13th beach and a good turnout of about 40 surfers, including 3 new members, gathered for the first comp held under the new scoring system.
All surfers’ names are put in a hat at the beginning of the day and you then surf a grading heat. Where you finish in your heat is where you then surf in your final. There were a few teething problems but all in all the competitors seemed to used to it, and it guarantees that all competitors get to surf in a final, as well as getting 2 surfs for the day.
With a number of new members and with the new system, competitors surfed with people they probably hadn’t surfed with before. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the commeradery of the day.
