News/March Comp

“You Should Have Been Here Yesterday Mate”

New members and new winners were happy to see the SOUL club hold its March comp at Ocean Grove main beach. In a week that saw pumping surf and Northerly winds the SOUL club was presented on Saturday morning with a reasonable swell but south to south easterly winds.(you should have been here yesterday seemed very apt)

“We made the decision to run at Grove main beach because we were faced with a mid day low tide and the south east winds. We thought it was offering the best options on the day for the club” said President Brian Tucker.

A total of about 70 competitors turned up for the day and first heats were in the water by 8 am. The conditions were quite challenging for most of the day with messy waves and some bigger sets coming through. The good surfers as always seemed to make it look better and a couple of high scoring waves in the A grade division made it look even better still.

John Willard and his band of merry musicians came down later in the day and put on some live music and drumming for all to hear. This created a great atmosphere and added even more fun to the whole experience.

Next club comp is the 12 of April. Grove Main beach 7am.

Major raffle prize of 2 (yes 2) Imperial surf boards. Tickets will be available at the next comp.
