SOUL kick off 2016 in style

A big turnout for the 1st SOUL comp of 2016 were greeted by Ocean Grove with a 3 foot plus swell and a slight onshore breeze. Some might argue that this is Ocean Grove at it’s best.
Once all the gear was set up and bacon and eggs on the BBQ, the 1st heat hit the water at 8am. There was a high standard of modern long boarding and some classic logging all throughout the day.

However, the highlight had to be the Grom’s expression session, they all had to be lured from the water with a free sausage in bread and can of drink. The club will run these expression sessions for the kids through till our April comp.

A fantastic day was had by all, for those interested the results were:

Junior Boys/Girls
Girls 1st Millie
Boys 1st Daniel

Open Men
1st Liam Griggs Kennelly
2nd Myles Fletcher
3rd Dean Cook
4th Trav Reid

Open Women
1st Mel Renton- Wright
2nd Morgan Griggs Kennelly
3rd Lou McSween
4th Cath Slevin
5th Grace McCann

1st Ben Considine

California Cup “Match Report”

California Cup Soul vs. Maladiction Longboarders held on Saturday 4th July 2015 at Atlas (Pines) on the Mornington Peninsula.

The Soul team was made up of Ian Coggins, Mel & Matty, Wally, Robbo, Brian & Sam Tucker, Mark Westworth, Robbie Emslie, Chris McSween, Dale Croft, Andy Brown and Fletch and a few supporters tagged along. (We also had some assistance from Kevin & Joel Hunter and Joe Hart and John Norton). We all arrived from the 1st ferry to the Pines Carpark to 6 inch waves with the promise from Maladiction that the incoming tide will lift the swell, and right on 10.30am start time some 1 – 2 foot waves rolled in.

The weather was not real great drizzling rain and a top temp of about 8-9 degrees.

There were 4 heats of 4 surfers each club and 2 heats of the logger division.

The vibe around the tents and BBQ was fun and relaxed, but the surfing was excellent from all competitors.

The event wrapped up around 2.30pm and we headed the Peninsula Board Riders compound for a few beers more banter and a presentation.

After the heats & Logger were tallied the Maladiction crew took first place in the Open 9ft with a total of 453.9 to Soul 404.3 and in the Logger Soul was on top with a total of 221 to Maladiction 143.8.

So great effort to the Soul crew and also Maladiction for putting on a great event.

This event was first introduced by Andy Carter from Maladiction and Brian Tucker agreed to get Soul involved and it has been a great success.

That said these events are open to all Soul members and next year it will be held on our coast, so we need as [...]
